Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) plans to commence the use of all of its three runways later this month.
In a release, airport operator Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) stated the target date for the commissioning of the HKIA Three-Runway System (3RS) will be on November 28. HKIA's three runways will be operating after AAHK obtains the aerodrome license and the 3RS commissioning.
“AAHK targets to obtain the aerodrome licence in November 2024, covering the operation of the existing South Runway and North Runway, the reconfigured Centre Runway, the associated taxiways and supporting facilities,” the airport operator said.
HKIA has operated with two runways as its center runway (07C/25C) was temporarily closed for upgrades. The airport has been operating using the southern runway (07R/25L) and the northern runway (07L/25R). A flight check at the center runway was completed in September.
AAHK also added it will start gearing up with business partners with a view to commission the expanded Terminal 2 by phases starting in the end of 2025.
